When the Person Who Knew Everything Leaves

UHNW families managing property across multiple geographies are beginning to ask a different question. Not: where should we buy? But: how do we ensure that what we have stays as it was intended to be? A villa in Bodrum. A flat in Dubai. A summer house in Cape Town.

Each with its own vendor relationships, its own maintenance rhythms, its own operational memory — or the absence of it. Most owners navigate this through a trusted individual: a caretaker, a local contact, a family office assistant who holds the institutional knowledge personally.

When that person leaves — and eventually, they always do — the knowledge goes with them. Institutional memory for a private residence is not a technology problem.

A dashboard will not tell you which contractor understands the property’s particular character, or which supplier the owner has preferred for twenty years, or what the previous winter revealed about the roof. It is a discipline problem — the kind that has to be built deliberately, maintained consistently, and transferred carefully. That is the work I am focused on with Standart Consultancy’s Standart Residence Operating System.

Standart Consultancy provides owner-side operating discipline for exceptional private residences in Türkiye and the Eastern Mediterranean.
